So after being sick with a cold/allergy-esque/48-hour thing on Monday and Tuesday, I finally felt normal-ish earlier today! Copious amounts of Celestial Seasonings tea and chicken noodle soup did the trick in the mission to feel better! I'm quite thankful to work with a team that was understanding of me not wanting to come into the office and potentially spread anything around. Anyways, back to beauty business! I met Kara earlier this evening at Starbucks to discuss her wedding makeup - my hairstylist Michele from The Apprentice Salon & Training Clinic referred Kara to me since she is doing Kara's hair for the wedding. Kara and I discussed a variety of products and brands and one of my favorite drugstore brands came into conversation - Maybelline. As fate may have it, I happened to meet the district manager for L'Oreal Paris USA and Maybelline and two of her coworkers! They overheard my conversation regarding my current mascara of choice and came over to introduce themselves. The district manager even took a photo of my makeup and mascara! We swapped cards and she said she's looking forward to reading my blog! I'm slightly kicking myself because I *really* need to re-design and order RVAfashionista.com cards but I had one of my Rusz Marketing ones handy (while my MAC Technologies cards are gorgeous, my Rusz one's are a bit easier to write on).
So what is this magical Maybelline mascara you ask? I was wearing the newest incarnation from the Maybelline Volum' Express The Falsies... FLARED! This Maybelline Volum' Express The Falsies Flared mascara is designed to give you maximum high-drama lash volume with flared, fanned out lashes. At this very moment, it is not listed on the US Maybelline website but if you want a sneak peak - check out Maybelline's Canadian site here. I found my Flared tube on sale at CVS last week for $5 on a Maybelline new product display which featured the new Eye Studio Color Explosion Luminizing Eyeshadow palettes and the Eye Studio Master Drama Cream Pencil (both links are from Maybelline's Canadian site). The display also featured the new Age Rewind Dark Circles Eraser (link courtesy of Target, not listed yet on Maybelline's US and CA sites) which is available in concealing shades as well as a yellow-based neutralizer and a pale pinky-peach brightener which seems to be a pretty close dupe to Trish McEvoy's Instant Eye Lift Concealer.
If you haven't found the Maybelline Volum' Express The Falsies Flared in stores yet, I'm also a fan of Maybelline Volum' Express The Falsies Black Drama and Maybelline Volum' Express The Falsies One By One. If you lust for drag queen worthy lashes, I'd go for the Black Drama but if you're a volume paired with definition kind of gal, I'd go for the One By One.
LASH DEFINING MOMENTS!
Maybe it's just me but I feel the formulation is the best so far for the Flared version of the Maybelline Volum' Express mascaras. I wore it for 7+ hours today and noticed nary a flake or smudge! I am still investigating if this is a 1-coat or 2-coat mascara, I noticed a slight bit of clumping on my second coat but the formula is wet enough that I could maneuver my mascara wand and re-comb through to eliminate any errant clumps. As much as I'm a sucker for a new mascara, I may be keeping Maybelline Volum' Express The Falsies Flared in my arsenal for quite some time!
ps. If they say the first step is admitting you have a problem, well then hi - I'm a mascara junkie. What about you? I need to avoid the CVS Beauty aisle like the plague!
