Currently Testing: Eye BOOSTER 2-in-1 Day & Night Lash Boosting Serum

Eyelash serums/conditioners/boosters are all the rage and I'm currently testing Physicians Formula's Eye BOOSTER 2-in-1 Day & Night Lash Boosting Serum. I picked up the Eye BOOSTER 2-in-1 Day & Night Lash Boosting Serum at CVS with a coupon about a month ago.

I admit I haven't been using the product on a regular basis but I have noticed a slight change in my lashes. I'm curious to see the results once I use this more consistently. The application process is easy, it's a matter of taking the time to actually apply it. I'm high maintenance but still kinda lazy. Yes, I said LAZY. So time will tell if this stuff really works but I will be sure to keep you posted!

Graphic Design, #OOTD from 01/10/11, and other randoms.

I took a mini-hiatus from blogging so I apologize for the lack of posts on Monday and Tuesday. Monday I was working on design work for a new header and logo for the blog. I am planning on transitioning back over to Blogger but I wanted to make sure I have my header and layout completely set up before I do the switcheroo on y'all. I seriously contemplated switching to Wordpress but I've seen quite a few well-done blogs on the Blogger platform and I'd prefer to not pay for hosting at the present time. Maybe in a year or two I'll switch to Wordpress if I need more options but as for now, Blogger seems to be the direction I'd like to go in since I'm rather pro-Google on many things. Here's a preview of sorts on the direction I'd like my header to go for my blog. I need to do a bit of design tweaking but here's the initial go:

And here's my outfit of the day from Monday since I spent Tuesday in my PJ's due to a major endometriosis flare up and I was a member of the #angryuterus club. Please pardon the semi-crappy expressions and goofy poses, it was hella cold outside. *brr* And the realization of "oh hey, look at that PMS flubber water weight" which explains my crappy mood all week. Gotta have a sense of humor with these things, ya know?

Sweater - Frenchi at BP. Nordstrom (kind of similar, mine is circa 2005)

Black Cami - Sweet Nothings "Get The Skinny" Cami (where do they come with the names with these things?)

Grey Suede Boots - White Mountain from South Moon Under

Jeggings - fab'rik

So now I need to hit the shower since I haven't showered for 48 hours (ewww) and make myself look presentable...  Grabbing coffee with a friend and then dinner with my old roommate and his beau tonight. Should be fun, let's just hope I feel well enough to handle it!

e.l.f. Studio Mini-Haul

Today I finally ordered some makeup goodies from the e.l.f. Studio line of products! I received an e-mail coupon code that was good for 50% off all the e.l.f. Studio products so I felt this was my chance to try out the e.l.f. Studio Powder Brush (on the left) that I've had my eye on for a while. I also decided to purchase the High Definition Powder, the e.l.f. Studio Body Glow, and e.l.f. Studio Brow Brush from the e.l.f. Studio line.

As soon as my new e.l.f. Studio products arrive in the mail, I promise to take photos and do reviews! I am STOKED about trying that e.l.f. Studio Powder Brush!

Keep The Red In With Quantum Riveting Reds Refreshing Conditioner

After to converting to "Team Auburn" this fall from "Team Blonde" - I've had to re-think my approach regarding washing and conditioning my hair. Maintaining the gorgeous red and auburn hues is a challenge for any faux-redhead because the molecules of the red hair dye are much larger and the size of those color molecules can result in quicker fade time. The hair shaft can't hold onto the larger molecule as well as a smaller molecule (such as a brown dye) and thus, your precious red hair dye molecules are washed down the drain.

Quantum at ShopStyle

Quantum Riveting Reds Refreshing Color Conditioner is the saving grace for keeping my short auburn locks in tip-top-color even after my dye job has surpassed the 2-month mark. This stuff has done wonders for maintaining a nice auburn glow. Is my hair color as "fresh" as week one after dying it? Well, probably not - but it's pretty darn close...  I right after I took the plunge to "Team Auburn," I did use a kit of travel sizes from Paul Mitchell's Color Protect Line that I purchased from my stylist for the first month. I'm currently using the Tresemme Color Revitalize Shampoo paired with the Quantum Riveting Reds Refreshing Conditioner.

If your hair is super dry, I may suggest using another conditioner. I read a few reviews on Sally Beauty and it said it wasn't as moisturizing. My hair type is fine and leans normal to oily. My hair definitely isn't as dry as when I was "Team Blonde" so I'm liking the change! I will continue to keep the red in with the Quantum Riveting Reds Refreshing Conditioner.

Frye Friday - Cindy, I've got my eye on you.

After poking around on ShopStyle, I stumbled upon these Frye Whiskey Leather "Cindy" Boots on Bluefly.

Frye at ShopStyle

I WANT. Enough said. As much as I love my caramel Qupid boots, they are hellaciously high for tromping around town on a regular basis. And once I start working downtown, I feel that flat boots may be my best friend for the uphill trek to the bus stop after work. I am sucker for that whiskey/caramel/cognac/etc. shade of brown. Love love love. Frye leather goods are also the kind of buys that will last me until infinity. So I've got my eye on the Frye "Cindy" until another boot comes along to capture my heart.

So who wants to give me a gift card to Bluefly? I need a badge that says WILL BLOG FOR SHOES.

Day 46

I meant to upload this sooner but I wanted to share my photo from the 100 Portraits 100 Days project that #RVA photographer Chris Owens has put together. My photo which was taken on "Black Friday" (November 26, 2010) and I was day 46 in the series!  Below the photo I've included the list of what I was wearing in case you're curious...

XCVI Repertory Leather Jacket (you can read my review here)

BP. Camisole

Merona Ultimate Camisole (shown in brown online, mine is black)

Bracelet & Green Shoes are from LeenaLu

#OOTD - 1/5/2010 - Grey Matter

OK, it's from yesterday. Didn't have a chance to upload photos until almost 4am-something. Yeah, go me! If you're lucky, you may get a 1/6/2010 OOTD but as of right now, I'm in my PJs as I'm writing this. Due to the wonders of of technology, you'll be reading this around 9:30am once you're settled in at the office with your second cup of morning coffee. I will hopefully be catching up on some sleep!

So if I'm not "gussied up" to leave the house for a lunch meeting, a networking event, or perusing the mall to see what's new - chances are I will be wearing something along these lines. This look has also been interchangeable with my grey suede boots and my black riding boots. The Chucks definitely give it a casual look though and they are OMG comfy. I forgot how much I loved them until recently and I'm debating on buying a classic black pair at some point.

These photos are also a reminder that I prob could stand to lose a few pounds in the middle.... Gosh darn winter weight and Granny's Christmas cookies! The last photo before the shoe close up was for laughs because it progressively got colder as I was outside! Also realizing I should have worn a lipcolor with more color/punch. Oops.

Charcoal Grey Camisole - BP.

Black Shaping Tank - Sweet Nothings (I do need to do an article on shapewear and lingerie/foundations soon!)

Black Sweater - BP.

Grey Jeggings/Skinny Jeans - Jolt (I think the grey is discontinued but the link is to the denim color.)

Sneakers - Converse (the pair online have red broken hearts instead of pink like mine)

Change of Plans

Well, I had a pre-written post ready to load. Thank goodness for that "edit post" option to move it tomorrow. So a change of plans! I've been doing some thinking the past few months regarding my direction of where I want to take RVAfashionista.com. I know I haven't been the best at maintaining regular content but since I sprung on buying myself a new camera for Christmas, I can now do proper outfit of the day posts (OOTD) and do product reviews with actual swatches and product photos vs. the the product photos from ShopStyle. My other dilemma is that I've had a few readers say that they've had issues commenting to my entries. I'm debating on moving to the Wordpress.org platform and buying my own server space because my domain is about to expire through GoDaddy. I'm also seriously considering moving back over to Blogger because they've made quite a few changes for layouts and technical capabilities vs. when I had Blogger back in the day. I've seen a lot of good fashion and beauty bloggers on the Blogger platform such as Looks Good From The Back, 15 Minute Beauty Fanatic, Keiko Lynn, Nouveau Cheap, etc. My other fave blogs on the Wordpress platform include My Milk Glass Heart, Makeup & Beauty Blog, and My Lips But Better to name a few. I'm leaning towards Blogger because I'm pro-Google and I don't have to worry about server space. At the same time, I know a lot of people are Wordpress fanatics. Oh the choices...

So after that ramble, I'm now wondering where I'm going to go next...  Either way, I also plan on possibly re-doing my logo too. Time for a change! A little re-branding never hurt!

I'm also (im)patiently waiting to receive this Too Faced Pixie Pin-Ups set in the mail soon. Thanks to a contest that Too Faced was running on Twitter, I ended up winning their Pixie Pin-Ups set which includes their Shadow Insurance, six eyeshadows, Lava Gloss Eyeliner, and the Lash Injection Pinpoint Mascara. The eyeshadows seem to lean on the side of neutral which is right up my alley!

#OOTD 1/4/2011 - A Neutral Palette

First and foremost, I apologize for the goofy@$$ expression on my face. I think it's going to take me a while to not look like a deer in the headlights while I'm being photographed or when I start taking photos with the self-timer and the tripod. Many thanks to my BFF Michelle Corridon from The Chic Armoire who was kind enough to snap these photos for me! Michelle's self statement (taken from her Facebook page) is - "I love fashion. I hate consumerism. Preaching smart shopping since 2006." Our love of fashion started the friendship between Michelle and she has recently re-opened The Chic Armoire for your wardrobing needs. So here it goes for my #OOTD or "Outfit Of The Day" which I wore out to lunch with Michelle at our fave sushi place in Ashland - Yokozuna Sushi.

Black Cardigan - BP. at Nordstrom

Ruffle Blouse - GAP (this one is similar)

Black Shaping Cami (worn underneath blouse) - Sweet Nothings Get The Skinny Cami

Skinny Jeans - Skull Jeans from Debra Rae's Ladies Boutique

Belt - Lulu at Nordstrom (this one is similar)

Boots - Qupid at fab'rik

Watch - Sophie at Nordstrom (you can still purchase in store in the BP. department at Nordstrom)

I really love that shirt but it makes me look a little more heavy on top in photos versus in real life. "The girls" have always been a bit of a challenge for me when it comes to my own wardrobing and styling. I do like the belt with it though to add some definition to my waist. I'm curious to see how the shirt will look with my black Michael Kors boyfriend blazer or when paired with a skirt once the weather warms up!

#TuesdayShoesDay - Me Too Jekyll 4 Ankle Boot vs. Me Too Latria Ankle Boot - It's a SHOE-OFF!

Me Too Jekyll 4 Ankle Boot (on the left) vs. Me Too Latria Ankle Boot (on the right) - which bootie would you rock? I am digging the buckles and the lug sole on the Jekyll 4 but I am also a fan of the clean lines on the Latria. I obviously envision both of these paired with black tights and a cute dress or my fave jeggings from fab'rik and a flowy top with my Michael Kors boyfriend blazer.

Makeup Monday: e.l.f. Essentials Mechanical Eyelash Curler & Other Beauty Ramblings

The eyelash curler is one of  those makeup tools that either you love or you hate. Often there's a fear of oddly crimped lashes instead of perfectly curled lashes or a fear of yanking out more than your fair share of eyelash fringe. Yes, I have accidentally pulled out a few eyelashes while sneezing with the eyelash curler in hand. Thank goodness the eyelash lost I've experienced has been very slight and usually something an extra coat of mascara will help cover up!

A little bit of lash-ology history on me. I've always been on the side of blonde and pretty fair. My natural hair color has darkened a bit over the years but is still in a realm of a dark ashy blonde. My eyebrows are naturally a shade of dark neutral blonde. Even when my hair has been dyed super blonde, I still filled my brows in and obviously black mascara is my BFF. I'm currently a auburn/brunette of sorts paired with a pixie cut - I turned in my blonde card thanks to my awesome stylist Michele at The Apprentice Salon & Training Clinic. Don't forget to receive 20% your first services with Michele with the RVAfashionista RVA Reader Deal.

So after that trip down memory lane, I'm back to our original discussion regarding lash-ology. I noticed in both of those photos that chances are my lashes aren't curled. Yes, black mascara and black liner are essentials in my makeup wardrobe but the lash curler is often the forgotten tool. I've spent good money on the Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler before and it is supposedly the "Holy Grail" of eyelash curlers but didn't consider it as holy grail per se. I've also used the M.A.C. Full Eyelash Cu.rler too and Shiseido "The Makeup" Eyelash Curler too. They're all good but for the price, Shiseido is the only one that sells the replacement pads.

After poking around the beauty clearance section at Target right before Christmas I saw that they had all of their e.l.f. gift sets and stocking stuffers on clearance. The e.l.f. Essentials Mechanical Eyelash Curler was staring me in the face for a whopping 70 cents. In case you aren't familiar with e.l.f. - most of their products retail for a buck except for those in their Studio line. I've been meaning to bite the $3 bullet and purchase the e.l.f. Studio Powder Brush. Ever since I read the review on Makeup and Beauty Blog written by Katie from My Lips But Better, I've been wanting to try that brush out!

e.l.f. Mechanical Eyelash CurlerSee, I warned you there would be other beauty ramblings! But yes, back to the e.l.f. Essentials Mechanical Eyelash Curler... This is quite possibly the best eyelash curler I've found and you can't believe the MSRP of $1! Again, I was lucky enough to find mine off the clearance rack at Target for all of 70 cents. My eyelash curler did include a replacement curling pad but I'm not sure if the version you can buy online from e.l.f. includes one. Either way, for a $1 you won't feel bad if you accidentally lose it or break it. Don't forget to periodically clean your eyelash curler with a cotton swab and some rubbing alcohol to rid of any residue from your eyeliner or eyeshadow. One more thing, please DON'T curl your lashes after your mascara. You could potentially cause major lash loss and you could smudge the rest of your eye makeup from your mascara that hasn't dried yet. I personally like to apply my primer and eyeshadow, curl my lashes, and then apply my liquid liner and mascara. I rarely use a pencil liner except on the lower lashline but if you're more comfortable utilizing a pencil liner, that works too! Remember, makeup is what about works best for you and makes you feel the most comfortable!
