#OOTD: Cocktails at The Jefferson

The Jefferson Hotel in Richmond, VA is top-notch for luxury, accommodations, and experience. On Friday my friend Michelle and I decided to partake in cocktails at Lemaire which is the fabulous restaurant and bar inside The Jefferson. Since I actually had an able and willing body to snap a pic of me, I couldn't resist looking sassy!

And I couldn't resist a Christmas tree pic either from The Jefferson!

Winter Skin Survival: Philosophy's Hands of Hope

While the official start to winter is over a week away, the dry air is trying to suck the life out of my cuticles and hands. As a makeup artist, I use a lot of hand sanitizer in between clients at work. Hands of Hope by Philosophy has become my go-to hand cream. Absorbs quickly, no weird scent, and leaves my "paws and claws" happily moisturized! I'm prone to getting wicked hangnails and Hands of Hope seems to be helping! I'm sure it'd be helping my hands even more if I actually remembered to use it regularly. But as I'm prone to those stereotypical blonde moments, I sometimes seem to forget to use hand cream until my hands are super dry!

#TuesdayShoesDay: Frye Rogan Engineer Boot

Normally with #TuesdayShoesDay, I try to post shoes within my budget but on occasion I get the urge to post about a pair of shoes I'd splurge on if I had copious amounts of random cash. Today is one of those days...

I present to you the Frye Rogan Engineer Boot. I *adore* the rugged details and the stud accents. I'm obviously a little obsessed with motorcycle boots at the moment and what girl doesn't love a good boot. Obviously I'd pair them with leggings, jeggings, and skinny jeans and a tunic but I'd also envision these with one of my summer sundresses, a cardigan, black tights, and a studded belt.

Boots by Frye at ShopStyle

Yay or nay on these?

ps. Hey Santa, if you wanna get me a pair of Frye's for Christmas - I won't object!

pps. I'm totally working on a "Makeup Monday" write up on concealers. Ran out of time to finish it last night but it should roll out next Monday. Someone hold me accountable, OK?

D@MN YOU, Target!

Send me into to Target with Christmas money and a gift card from a friend? Chances are I'm leaving with at least a thing or two...

I *almost* took home this Mossimo Ponte Knit Jacket. Loved the cut, the style, the shape. But it was a little too short in the back especially if I wanted to do the knit tunic tank paired with leggings/jeggings combo. I may go back and get it at some point to pair with looser fitted tops and maybe some of my dresses. A knit blazer for under $20 with a good shape and is also available in chocolate brown and charcoal grey? A possible must buy...

Jackets by Mossimo at ShopStyle

I ended up buying three of these Mossimo Ultrasoft Cardigans. Two in good ol' basic black and one in a grey with black stripe. You can never have too many black cardigans especially because mine disappear randomly and often due to friends borrowing them. (Thanks y'all.)

Petite Sweaters by Mossimo at ShopStyle

And now presenting the "D@MN YOU, Target" portion...

I've noticed more and more that Target's shoes have been running redic narrow as of late. I'm technically a 6.5 wide but can usually size up to a 7 especially if their boots. Case in point, I'm already obsessed with my Coconuts by Matisse "Chino" motorcycle-esque boots. Love them. Wear them almost every day. Well, I figured it wouldn't kill me to have a slightly different styled motorcycle boot especially with a lug sole which would be great for traction. But no, they didn't fit. Length was great, calf/ankle fit, but they were way too narrow. Great. Thanks Target. Can you please start making wider shoes again?

OK, I'm done with my hissy fit. But D@MN YOU for not having wider-cut shoes Target. Sad emo shoe loving Lins.

Latest Wardrobe Obsession: The Knit Blazer

Ladies, gents, and fellow fashionistas - if you haven't incorporated a basic black blazer into your wardrobe - DO IT NOW. Bonus points if you're lucky to find a blazer in a light/medium weight ponte knit. I stumbled upon this Olivia Moon Knit Blazer while perusing the racks at Nordstrom this weekend and I've already worn it on a bar crawl (to benefit Toys for Tots), to the RVAFB meet up, and to work yesterday! Heck, I'd prob have it on today except I went for low-key uber comfy chic due to the rainy weather.

Blazers by Olivia Moon at ShopStyle

In addition to the good ol' basic black pictured above, it also comes in a stunning cobalt blue. I *really* want the blue but for practicality, I went for black. Currently my work dress code consists of a lot of neutrals and a plethora of black pieces and denim (thank the fashion deities for denim and jeggings) so the blue would be a weekend and off-the-clock piece.

Blazers by Olivia Moon at ShopStyle

See, LOOK at that cobalt. Yum. I'm already imagining you with a black tank, my black ponte mini skirt or my black vegan leather mini, funky tights (either purple, turquoise, or black patterned), and my black motorcycle boots. But instead I'll probably settle for wearing my black blazer with lots of color when I'm not working even though that cobalt blue is TO DIE FOR.

I'm also obsessed with this Bobeau Open Cardigan from Nordstrom. It's so soft and super comfortable with three-quarter sleeves perfect for showcasing your fave bracelet or two. Best part? Comes in "straight sizes" and plus sizes too! How awesome is that paired with the sale price and free shipping from Nordies!?

#JOTD - Meet Fred

What girl doesn't need a fab lizard ring to complement an awesome manicure?

Yes, his name is Fred. The ruby-esque ring is from my fave Carytown street vendor which is in daily "Jewelry Of The Day" rotation at the moment.

#TuesdayShoesDay: Vince Camuto 'Korsi' (And a #RVAFB wrap-up!)

Oh hello blog, I've missed you. Sorry that I've been a crazy busy blog owner and been involved with work, Black Friday and Black Saturday, dealing with a craptastic breakup and that roller coaster of emotions (ladies, please note that shoes will not break your heart), and just feeling generally blah. So three months later to the day, I come back to you with a little bit of passion and renewed faith in my blog. Last night I met up with some lovely ladies and one gent (Brian from Dirty Richmond) last night at Tastebuds American Bistro for the RVAFB Meetup organized by Larissa (the amazing editor/founder behind From The Runway to RVA). It was nice to meet some fellow Richmond fashion bloggers, chit-chat, talk about RVA Fashion Week, told the group about the BEST mascara ever (Bare Escentuals Curl & Lengthen), and talked about monetizing and blog partnerships (check out ShopSense as a part of ShopStyle).

It is #TuesdayShoesDay after all so here's a pair of Vince Camuto's I have my eye on from Nordstrom. I'm a fan of Vince Camuto because he does offer shoes in a wide-width which is most certainly a gift from the the shoe deities. Often shoe vendors think wide results in ugly/Grandma-ish but fashion forward gals have wide feet too! Thank you Vince!

Also, talk of glasses were mentioned since I was wearing my Derek Cardigan 7009 Fuschia glasses from Coastal.com! I do have a couple promo codes for glasses from Coastal thanks to No More Rack that are valid for new customers so let me know if you want one!

#TuesdayShoesDay: JS by Jessica Oscar Leopard Fabric Pump

Leopard is one of those fall/winter trends that keeps coming back. I myself would classify leopard print accessories as a classic and dare I say that leopard is "neutral" as well. A few years back I had a fave pair of leopard print faux-suede peep toe demi-wedges from Target. I wore them until they went to shoe heaven. Since leopard is back on the radar for fall, I think I'm on the prowl for a new pair of leopard shoes. While I'm a bit unsure of the 4" inch heel height on these JS by Jessica Oscar pumps, I adore the classic style and rounded toe. I love the look of stilettos but the pain isn't worth it sometimes.

Are you leaning towards leopard for fall?

Makeup Monday: Current Obsessions - FACE

In addition to my love of all things fashion, it's just slightly obvious I have a MAKEUP OBSESSION. I really need to do another "clear out" session of my collecion and revamp my makeup "vanity" which is really just a bunch of plastic shelves but it's gotten beyond cluttered lately. But back to the makeup talk...

Since I started working at Le Visage Makeup Boutique, I've become obsessed with a few products from the lines we carry here in the boutique.

I absolutely LOVE the Paula Dorf Perfect Primers. I use a teeny-tiny dab of the Normal/Dry primer under my eyes and the Normal/Oily on the rest of my face. These primers are indeed perfect and don't feel heavy on my skin. I love how the Normal/Oily Perfect Primer has 0.5% Salicylic Acid which prevents your face from being an oil slick if your prone to "the shinies" like I am.

My next new obsession is The Balm's Balm Shelter Tinted Moisturizer. This stuff is da bomb with SPF18 while providing lightweight coverage. This stuff blends like a dream and doesn't feel heavy or sticky.

Last but not least, I have a major love affair with Julie Hewett's Ora Mineral Mix Foundation. Flawless, matte coverage which still manages to make skin look like skin but better. Amazing. I'm HOOKED. I apply it with my Bare Escentuals Flawless Face Brush.

What are your current makeup obsessions?

#TuesdayShoesDay - Vince Camuto 'Vickiy' Pump

New job = new shoes? Right? There has to be another shoe loving fashion gal that believes in my philosophy! While I'm ready to rock my boots for fall with leggings and skinny jeans, I'm on the hunt for a classic pump to wear with my trousers and the like. These Vince Camuto 'Vickiy' pumps are calling my name due to the classic styling, a reasonable 3-inch heel, and the option for a wide width (I'm truly a 6.5 wide but I sometimes size up to a 7 depending on the brand).

Pumps by Vince Camuto at ShopStyle

The 'Vickiy' is offered in both black calf and black patent but I'm leaning towards the smooth black calf. Also, how cute are these Me Too 'Princess' Espadrille Slingbacks? I know summer is almost over but I think these might be a fab replacement for my blush nude Steve Madden Fauntain wedges. Leopard is a neutral, right?

Pumps by Me Too at ShopStyle

Do you still have summer shoes on your mind or are you already shopping for fall since it's #TuesdayShoesDay?

ps. I will do a proper update on the new job and the like but I'm beyond thrilled to be working with Le Visage Makeup Boutique in Carytown as their Marketing Director and as a makeup artist!

Sale Math: Logic Borrowed from Adrien at LGFTB

Adrien at Looks Good From The Back recently posted about the logic of shopping and sale math regarding a steal of a deal on an adorbs Ann Taylor trench coat. To me, fashion isn't about what/who you're wearing (regarding brand) but how you wear it. However, if you get an insanely good deal that was blessed by the sale gods, a little bit of fashion bragging is totally appropriate. I admit, I'm cheap. If it was on sale = YAY, if I had a coupon/promo code = EVEN BETTER. So here's my little bit of my recent sale math to share with y'all...

Yes, it's 90 friggin'-odd-degrees outside. YAY SUMMER. Not. I've been living in canvas/cork wedges and flip-flops but I have a boot fetish. I've off-and-on stalked the Coconuts Chino Bootie on the DSW website since last fall. It's kind of an internet crush I suppose because I haven't met these boots in real life yet... They were originally compared at $209 and unfortunately I don't remember the "before they went on clearance" price but I think they were around $120-ish. Currently the price tag is marked at $69.94 which works out to 67% off which isn't a bad deal at all. But thanks to DSW Rewards, I scored an extra $15 off. I received a $10 off reward as a "welcome back" to DSW Rewards since I had bought my momma a gift certificate for her birthday back in May. Well, my birthday is this month and I received a $5 off reward from DSW. So $15 off $69.94? YES PLEASE. I also had a shipping promo code on all orders of $35 or more so my grand total was $54.94 before the $2.75 sales tax. That's a whopping $154.06 off or 74% which equals one helluva deal in my book.

Late Night Beauty Bits

So after being sick with a cold/allergy-esque/48-hour thing on Monday and Tuesday, I finally felt normal-ish earlier today! Copious amounts of Celestial Seasonings tea and chicken noodle soup did the trick in the mission to feel better! I'm quite thankful to work with a team that was understanding of me not wanting to come into the office and potentially spread anything around. Anyways, back to beauty business! I met Kara earlier this evening at Starbucks to discuss her wedding makeup - my hairstylist Michele from The Apprentice Salon & Training Clinic referred Kara to me since she is doing Kara's hair for the wedding. Kara and I discussed a variety of products and brands and one of my favorite drugstore brands came into conversation - Maybelline. As fate may have it, I happened to meet the district manager for L'Oreal Paris USA and Maybelline and two of her coworkers! They overheard my conversation regarding my current mascara of choice and came over to introduce themselves. The district manager even took a photo of my makeup and mascara! We swapped cards and she said she's looking forward to reading my blog! I'm slightly kicking myself because I *really* need to re-design and order RVAfashionista.com cards but I had one of my Rusz Marketing ones handy (while my MAC Technologies cards are gorgeous, my Rusz one's are a bit easier to write on).

So what is this magical Maybelline mascara you ask? I was wearing the newest incarnation from the Maybelline Volum' Express The Falsies...  FLARED! This Maybelline Volum' Express The Falsies Flared mascara is designed to give you maximum high-drama lash volume with flared, fanned out lashes. At this very moment, it is not listed on the US Maybelline website but if you want a sneak peak - check out Maybelline's Canadian site here. I found my Flared tube on sale at CVS last week for $5 on a Maybelline new product display which featured the new Eye Studio Color Explosion Luminizing Eyeshadow palettes and the Eye Studio Master Drama Cream Pencil (both links are from Maybelline's Canadian site). The display also featured the new Age Rewind Dark Circles Eraser (link courtesy of Target, not listed yet on Maybelline's US and CA sites) which is available in concealing shades as well as a yellow-based neutralizer and a pale pinky-peach brightener which seems to be a pretty close dupe to Trish McEvoy's Instant Eye Lift Concealer.

If you haven't found the Maybelline Volum' Express The Falsies Flared in stores yet, I'm also a fan of Maybelline Volum' Express The Falsies Black Drama and Maybelline Volum' Express The Falsies One By One. If you lust for drag queen worthy lashes, I'd go for the Black Drama but if you're a volume paired with definition kind of gal, I'd go for the One By One.

Maybe it's just me but I feel the formulation is the best so far for the Flared version of the Maybelline Volum' Express mascaras. I wore it for 7+ hours today and noticed nary a flake or smudge! I am still investigating if this is a 1-coat or 2-coat mascara, I noticed a slight bit of clumping on my second coat but the formula is wet enough that I could maneuver my mascara wand and re-comb through to eliminate any errant clumps. As much as I'm a sucker for a new mascara, I may be keeping Maybelline Volum' Express The Falsies Flared in my arsenal for quite some time!

ps. If they say the first step is admitting you have a problem, well then hi - I'm a mascara junkie. What about you? I need to avoid the CVS Beauty aisle like the plague!

The Anti-Gym Workout: Little Secret Fitness

Confession time... I have a secret.
I *HATE* working out.

What?!? Yes, I said it. To all you gym-obsessed, workout fanatics, I just don't "understand" the workout obsession. When I worked in retail, maintaining my weight was pretty easy since I was on my feet 8+ hours a day while usually in heels. Now since I work in an office or from home, the weight has crept back on. I don't mind some of the extra curvature but it's about damn time I get myself back into better shape!

That being said, I took my first class last night at Little Secret Fitness which specializes in alternative fitness and dance. I participated in the Pole Conditioning - Core & Upper body class which utilizes a, *ahem*, stripper pole for a weight training tool. Yes, real girls get down on the pole in this class. Who knew that you could do sit-ups on a pole?

I'm definitely looking forward to attending my next class at Little Secret Fitness! The Pole Conditioning - Core & Upper Body classes are currently held on Tuesdays from 6pm-7pm and the Pole Conditioning - Core & Lower Body classes are held on Thursdays at 5pm. These classes are a great way to condition your body for the other pole dancing classes available at Little Secret Fitness.

Don't forget to "like" Little Secret Fitness on Facebook and to follow them on Twitter at @LSF3500. They're having a LADIES NITE OUT next Wednesday June 8 from 7pm-9pm and you'll get to try out all the classes for $5. I can't wait to go back and work on my fitness! This is a great option if you're anti-gym like myself.

#TuesdayShoesDay: Steve Madden "Wissper"

So it's been a while since I've done a #TuesdayShoesDay post... I'm trying to get my blogging and self-branding mojo back on even though I just took on yet another project. Yeah, I know... I'm already busy enough as it is but I'm beyond excited to be involved with YRichmond as their social media coordinator for the summer. Hooray for volunteer/mini-internship opportunities.

But enough about work, let's talk about SHOES. The Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale is going on and I've got my eye these Steve Madden Wissper wedge sandals! I'm all about a wedge heel to add some height without the often toe-crunching pain of a stiletto. When you're 5'1", every inch counts!

Shoes & Boots by Steve Madden at ShopStyle

These are definitely classy enough for the office and sassy enough to wear out on the town. What are your thoughts on the Steve Madden "Wissper" - yay or nay?

Makeup Monday: e.l.f. Essentials Shimmering Facial Whip - The $1 Wonder

I admit I'm a self-professed beauty product junkie. My "stash" ranges from high-end to drugstore and budget friendly products. My newest beauty obsession is the e.l.f. Essentials Shimmering Facial Whip which features a $1 price tag. YES, I SAID A DOLLAR, Y'ALL. This $1 wonder packs a non-glittery shimmer in a not quite liquid, not quite cream  yet easy to blend base. I currently own the Lilac Petal color which leans more towards a cool-toned champagne pink in my opinion. Currently I use a swipe or two of the e.l.f. Essentials Shimmering Facial Whip under my eyes paired with whatever hodgepodge of concealers I end up using. I'm a victim to quite possibly the worst under eye circles ever and while the Rodan + Fields Anti-Age Multi-Function Eye Cream that I'm currently testing seems to help the situation, a light bit of shimmer is a crucial addition to my concealer. As humoring as it is to have under eye circles that would make zombies jealous, I'm thankful for great skincare like the Rodan + Fields Anti-Age Multi-Function Eye Cream and the $1 wonder of the e.l.f. Essentials Shimmering Facial Whip in my makeup bag!

Sweating it out...

Beauty-fashion blogger confession time...

I sweat a lot. I'm a nervous sweater. Wait, that doesn't sound right. Either way, I sweat when I'm nervous, I sweat on dates, I sweat when it's perfectly cool out and the only thing I'm doing is typing a blog post or watching Netflix. You guessed it, I sweat a lot. So to all you girls out there who "don't sweat" - I pretty much hate you.

#OOTD - #RVA Fashion Week Finale

For the record, the *hardest* part of covering RVA Fashion Week was the photography. For every 5-10 photos I managed to take, usually one or two would turn out as good enough to post. I'm still sorting, cropping, and editing from the finale last night but I at least wanted to share my outfit with you.

Dress: Ya from Lex's of Carytown

Shoes: Qupid from LeenaLu

Handbag: Plato's Closet

The darling MK James McAllister was kind enough to snap my photo last night. And don't forget to check out GayRVA.com for coverage of RVA Fashion Week from myself and Kat from Percent.

ps. If you happened to snap a photo of me during the RVA Fashion Week events, I'd love to post it here on RVAfashionista.com and I'll gladly credit you!

Just a reminder that official write ups for my RVA FASHION WEEK coverage will be posted on here and on GayRVA.com but don't forget to follow my Tumblr and Twitter for live blogging of the #RFW events!

#FashionFriday - RVA Fashion Week & Catwalk For Kids

The last 48 hours of been a bit of a whirlwind - DMs on Twitter, e-mails, a little bit of luck, and suddenly elation. My initial elation began with the invitation to cover the Catwalk For Kids show featuring New York designer Amy Smilovic and her tibi line. Accessories and handbag designer Mary Norton is the brainchild behind Catwalk For Kids which combines fashion and healing children. For more information and to purchase tickets, please visit the Catwalk For Kids website. Don't forget to connect on Twitter and Facebook as well!

Elation part two is that I am covering RVA Fashion Week with GayRVA!!! I will be joined by the lovely Kat McEachern and Stanley Moreira, GayRVA's Managing Editor for event coverage. RVA Fashion Week begins tomorrow and #RVA had an initial taste of things to come last weekend with Fashion For A Cause (check out the photos here on GayRVA.com). If you're a Twitter junkie like myself, please use the hashtag #RFW for RVA Fashion Week updates and follow them on Twitter and like their Facebook page.

Can't wait to see everyone at all the RVA Fashion Week events and at Catwalk For Kids!

F21 Visual Inspiration

After spending over an hour working on tomorrow's #FashionFriday post featuring RVA Fashion Week and Catwalk For Kids, I think it's time for a visual or two (or three... or more) after browsing on Forever21. Just as a warning y'all - this post may not be the most professional regarding verbage and such but I will try to use decent grammar and good punctuation. I've had quite a few *SQUEEE* and *holy-crapper-dappers* moments after discovering I'm part of GayRVA's coverage team for RVA Fashion Week. The downside of discovering this is the sudden *OMG WHAT TO WEAR* thoughts running rampant through my head. My initial thought  was to remix my fave $5 black Diversity Thrift dress and wear it to all the shows while styling it as many ways as possible with shoes, hoisery, accessories, etc. #RVA weather seems to be a cold front again, so I have a feeling that tights may be an outfit accessory of choice. The dilemma is that I've somehow snagged a seam or two in said black dress (possibly due to some of the damn winter weight I'm attempting to shed) so my initial idea may be foiled. I've been meaning to look into adding some more dresses to my wardrobe for spring and summer so a little surfing on Forever21 has lead to a few picks that hopefully I may find in the store to try on as much as I hate trying on stuff.
