Project:Style Final Competition - It's a Style Off!

October 23, 2010 is going to be a busy day for me with the Women's Wellness Expo and the Pink Tie Gala that evening - in the middle of that I will also be judging the Project:Style Final Competition. I am excited to be invited as a judge for the event and I can't wait to see the outfits that the final round of contestants come up with!  The contestants are given a $150 Short Pump Mall gift card to create an outfit that best represents their style and creativity!  Trust me, I had wanted to enter this contest when I was still a Nordies employee - it's definitely a great way to showcase personal style.

For more information, check out Shoptopia and follow Short Pump Town Center on Twitter and Facebook.  I hope to see you all there at the Project:Style Final Competition before the Pink Tie Gala! Who doesn't love a Style Off?

Makeup Monday: Cover Girl LastBlast Mascara

Two years ago, I had reviewed Cover Girl LashBlast Mascara after the advice of one of my best friends. I loved it, wrote the review, and inevitably moved onto the next mascara (for the record, I have mascara commitment issues). I tried out the waterproof version of Lash Blast earlier this summer but the tube dried out quickly and that stuff was a pain to take off even with that snazzy Lancome eye makeup remover.  So after reading everyone else's reviews that included some "holy grail" reviews, I decided to give the good ol' original Cover Girl LashBlast Mascara a try again...

If you don't like a mascara with a big fat wand and rubbery bristles, Cover Girl LashBlast Mascara may not be not your mascara of choice.  If you're looking for BIG volume and can handle a big brush, this is definitely worth giving a try.  One coat leads to beautiful, thick yet defined lashes.  Two coats leads to borderline drag queen and well three coats leads to full on drag queen with a side of glitter.  I've been wearing two coats of the Cover Girl LashBlast Mascara because I like BIG lashes.  Since I wear glasses a good portion of the time, mascara is crucial to my makeup routine because it helps my eyes stand out behind my funky frames.  I haven't noticed any issues with smudging yet...  *fingers crossed* that it stays that way!

The BattyHead.com Lupus Awareness Bracelet

This smiling girl in the pink shirt is my sister Erika who has Systemic Lupus Erythematosus.  Our Twitter friend Michelle Batty owns a handmade jewelery line which featuring beautiful pieces made with love.  I am honored that Michelle created a Lupus Awareness Bracelet for my sister.  40% of the net proceeds from the bracelet sales will help go towards my sister's medical bills and towards lupus research.  You can check out all of the handmade jewelry on BattyHead.com but I would encourage you to purchase this beautiful Lupus Awareness bracelet and help support local business and a cause near and dear to my heart.

Remember to pay it forward and pray it forward....

Smell This Sunday: L'Homme Yves Saint Laurent

Gentleman, listen up!

Men's fragrance is a delicate subject whether you're a manly man or a metrosexual with an eye for keeping yourself well groomed - you want to smell good for yourself and your mate (or your future mate if you're single). My number one men's fragrance pick is L'Homme Yves Saint Laurent. This woodsy fresh fragrance features notes of bergamot, ginger, and vetiver but it has a very clean finish and smells AMAZING on skin.  To me, this fragrance could be described as "sex in a bottle."  If a woman says it smells like "sex in a bottle" - you have to have it, right guys?  Trust me, this smells so smooth and there is something in it that works with any man's chemistry.  I am also a fan of Gucci and Hanae Mori but there's something about the L'Homme Yves Saint Laurent that is amazing!

The Can't Wait List - 09/18 Edition

In attempts to mix things up on RVAfashionista.com, I shall attempt to do a feature entitled "The Can't Wait List" at least every couple weeks or so.  So I present to you the 09/18 edition of The Can't Wait List.  Here we go:

  • Autumn/Fall - I'm loving that it's below 70 degrees in the evenings but I'm ready for autumn/fall so I can wear boots again and tights with dresses.  I have these outfit ideas planned out that I cannot wear yet because it's too hot out during the day!
  • I'm ready for my XCVI Repertory Leather Jacket to arrive this week - I'm looking forward to adding a fashion forward leather jacket to my wardrobe.  XCVI was very kind to send me this jacket for promotional consideration to review and I am delighted to have the opportunity to connect with them.  XCVI is sold locally at Glass Boat in Carytown and don't forget to follow XCVI on Twitter!
  • Last but not least, I can't wait for the PINK TIE GALA on October 23 - please go to www.PinkTieGala.org to purchase your ticket and attend!!!  I had a blast at the Bachelor Auction this weekend and looking forward to the big event on October 23.  Please help me support this - I want to see all of you there!  You can also read my RVAfashionista.com post about the PINK TIE GALA here.

Pink Tie Gala 2010

On October 23, 2010 the fourth annual Pink Tie Gala will be held at the Downtown Richmond Marriott from 7:30pm to 12:30am.  This is a fabulous event to be a part of - you don't want to miss it!  I'm a firm believer in karma and paying it forward - if you do good, good will come to you.  Thus, the net proceeds of your $65 ticket go directly to Susan G. Komen for the Cure Richmond - how awesome is that?  I attended the Bachelor Auction last night and had a fantastic time and over $5000 was raised!  So please join me in attending the Pink Tie Gala - you don't want to miss this!!!

Makeup Monday: Wet 'n Wild Ultimate Sheer Tinted Moisturizer

I love my Clinique City Block Sheer OilFree Daily Face Protector SPF 25 but since I'm job hunting, my wallet is saying no to "high end" if I need to replace anything in my makeup bag.  I had used up the last of my City Block, cut open the tube, used every little smidge, and realized I needed to find a budget friendly replacement.  A trip to the drugstore lead to me purchasing Wet 'n Wild Ultimate Sheer Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15.  Don't be fooled by the small packaging - this tinted moisturizer packs great coverage without a sticky or heavy feel.  I would advise to give the bottle a quick shake before squirting out your desired amount of tinted moisturizer.  I use a dime size amount applied with my hands/fingers and then smoothed out with a sponge where needed.  All I need after is a bit of corrector and concealer under the eyes and a dusting of translucent powder allover to set.  Hello flawless and budget friendly with a price tag of around $4!
