Shoe Lust: Don't go for broke with Target's Pembroke!

In attempts to kick-start my brain for fall fashion, I spied these Women's Mossimo® Pembroke Snip-Toe Pumps - Black on Target's website.  I think these pumps would be a great summer-to-fall fashion piece.  Add some edge to a flowy, summery dress and then pair them with tights once the weather finally cools off.

Rocker girl chic meets girly sweet - what do you think?  You can't beat the price tag of $29.99 either!

Shoe Lust: Nine West Bombazin

"Oh, You dropped a bomb on me, baby... You dropped a bomb on me."

I've got another shoe crush...  This time it's the Nine West Bombazin Sandal which is available in metallic gold and silver. These lovelies are available in narrow, medium, and wide widths and retail for $59.95 by Nine West at DSW.  I'm loving the fact that they're available in a wide width and don't look like shoes my grandmother would wear.

ps. If anyone wants to buy me a birthday present, I will gladly take a 6.5 wide preferably in gold. Thanks!  :-)

Makeup Monday: Sephora Collection Buildable Coverage Concealer

Dear SEPHORA COLLECTION Buildable Cover Concealer,

I want to want you.  I want to like you.  You are *almost* perfect - good color, buildable coverage, creamy yet light texture, and a fairly reasonable $16.00 price tag (for "higher end") at Sephora.  However, you bring me to tears every time I try to cover up my horrid undereye circles.  I don't know how you do what you do but it hurts and I have no choice but to return you.  I'm sorry to end our short love affair... xoxo

Concealer shouldn't make you cry.... Well, maybe if it's *that* good.  Either way, there's something in this concealer that aggravates the heck out of my eyes and turns them into a stinging, watery mess of tears.  Which kind of defeats the purpose of wearing concealer, right?  Tomorrow will be a field trip to Sephora to return it...  Hmm, at least I'll get my Beauty Insider birthday gift!  There's always a positive to a negative.

Makeup Monday: Sephora Collection Lush Flush

Richmond, VA summers equal two things: HOT and HUMID weather with a major chance of a makeup meltdown.  I'll admit that I'm totally not a low maintenance makeup gal. I've got my "routine" but I'm willing to switch things up a bit.  Lip and cheek stains always intrigue me in the makeup aisles whether at Sephora or CVS.  The product appeal is sheer color that stays but the application method of the product doesn't always deliver great results.  I reviewed CoverGirl OutLast Lipstain a while ago - I loved the convenience of a "magic marker"-esque applicator but later discovered the product dried up easily and the marker applicator acquired an odd, uneven texture.  I went back to my usually methodology of applying a bright lipstick and blotting to  create a lipstain of sorts but not every lipstick has enough pigment for that method.  So I went back to the drawing board and the beauty aisles to discover a great two-in-one product: SEPHORA COLLECTION Lush Flush Lip & Cheek Stain.  This little tube of makeup goodness retails for $12.00 at Sephora and easily fits into your purse or pocket.  This red wine color adds buildable yet sheer coverage on both lips and cheeks.  Lush Flush swipes on like a lipgloss for lips and I'll dot it on my cheeks and blend with my fingers or sponge for a melt-proof blush.  Bonus points that this lip and cheek stain contains Red Wine Extract and antioxidants so it's good for your skin too!

Makeup Monday: Revlon ColorStay Mineral Finishing Powder

Despite my sales and artistry experience with the high-end cosmetics industry, I still peruse the aisles at my local drugstore to find budget-friendly finds. One of my favorite drugstore finds is the Revlon ColorStay Mineral Finishing Powder in Brighten.  This shimmery powder is marketed to be an allover finishing face powder but I reach for it most in my makeup bag as an eyeshadow or face highlighter.  The pale shimmery pink color makes a great allover eyeshadow color but also a good highlight color for more dramatic eye makeup looks.  I've been pairing it lately with my Trish McEvoy Eye Base Essentials in Demure.  The Colorstay Mineral Finishing Powder retails for $13.99 by Revlon at Walgreens.

What are your favorite drugstore products?

Double Dude-y: Beard Lube

Ladies, looking for those great products that do double dude-y (get it - "double duty") that your man/hubby/boyfriend can use but you can use as well? This Jack Black Beard Lube Conditioning Shave will give you and him quite possibly the best shave ever.  This product is a pre-shave oil, shaving cream, and a skin conditioner all rolled into one lightweight formula.  Wet skin, apply one pump of Beard Lube to face (or to leg), and shave.  And your DONE!  Ladies, this product rocks because you don't have to put on body lotion on your legs after you shave unless your skin is Sahara-desert dry. Men, this product is practically translucent so you can see everywhere you're shaving which is great for those of you who have goatees/mustaches/etc. Sixteen-ounces of the Beard Lube retails for $32.00 by Jack Black at Sephora and it's a $43 dollar value in comparison to their six-ounce size which retails for $16.  I prefer the pump on the larger size so I don't squeeze out too much product and overdo the Beard Lube.

Happy Independence Day!

Happy Independence July to all my readers and fans! I hope you have a great day whether you're relaxing at the pool or enjoying a baseball game out with friends.  Be safe, have fun, and stay COOL!

Local Focus: Lavender Fields Farm

Looking for affordable skincare made with locally grown certified USDA organic ingredients?  The eco-friendly products from Lavender Fields Farm feature good for your skin ingredients grown at their beautiful farm in Glen Allen, VA.  My mother introduced me to the skincare at Lavender Fields and both of us are addicted to their Oatmeal, Milk, & Honey soap.  This soap gently exfoliates, removes makeup, and leaves skin cleansed without dryness/tightness.  In addition to their great soaps, Lavender Fields has a selection of other skincare products available here.  Online ordering is available through Lavender Fields but if you're in the Richmond area - a trip to Lavender Fields Farm is a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon!

Shoe Lust: This "Friller" is a killer.

In a perfect world where I would have endless and possibly absurd amounts of money to spend on shoes, I would definitely add the Stuart Weitzman Women's Friller Pump to my collection.  I've got a fantastic pair of nude patent wedges that have been my go-to warm weather shoe but I am lacking a good pair of sassy brown spring/summer shoes.  These lovelies retail for $223.90 by Stuart Weitzman at Endless.com.  I adore the exposed wood detailing on the platform paired with the feminine bow.  I can envision this with a pencil skirt for the office or paired with a floaty floral top and fitted utilitarian-esque cargo capris.  Brown shoes don't always strike me as sexy but after spending the last half hour ogling them online, I *had* to share them with you!  What do you think?

Shoe Lust: Maxine

The caged sandal/bootie/shootie trend has been circulating the shoe circles for a while now.  While there's been quite a few styles that have caught my eye, most of them weren't designed for a wider foot. However, the Ros Hommerson Women's Maxine Pump could potentially fit the bill for a fashion forward style that comes in my *real shoe size* (I'm a 6.5 wide or 6.5 C/D but I often size up to a 7 because wides widths that don't look like old lady shoes are extremely hard to come by).  The buckles have form and function - the matte gold finish adds a slight touch of bling and the buckles allow you to customize the fit of the shoe to your foot.  I also appreciate the back zip on the shoe for quick on-and-off accessibility.  The Maxine retails for $115.85 by Ros Hommerson at Endless.com and is available in black leather and taupe nubuck.  I think the black leather would look great with a pair of skinny jeans or a dress and then pair it with matte black tights in the fall with a fitted black ponte knit miniskirt and a relaxed sweater.  I haven't bought these yet but I'm definitely eyeing them even for the sake of shoe eye candy.  At least it's non-fattening, right?

Chaussures Du Jour: 07/01/2010

In attempts to showcase my shoe collection, I am going to attempt to post my "shoes of the day" (provided that I'm not wearing flip-flops or that I'm barefoot that day). These wine-colored lovelies are a pair I picked up at Target this spring on clearance. You can still find them online here. They are fairly comfortable for being an almost 4" inch heel. Granted, they weren't the easiest to walk in this evening while out in Shockoe Slip but they looked cute with my outfit.

Summer Loving: I love this dress.

This Ruby Rox Sweetheart Dress (Juniors) is the perfect mix of sweet meets sexy. I love the vintage appeal of a fitted bodice paired with a swingy skirt that has pockets.  The style can be easily dressed up or down - pair it with flip-flops or with wedge sandals.  I've paired this dress with a skinny belt and cardigan for work and with a stretchy wide belt for going out.  It's a total steal on sale for $21.90 at Nordstrom.  I also want this dress in the chambray and the white/black polka dot since those styles are also marked down.  There is also a grey and fuschia floral print available but that color isn't on sale but a fantastic fitting dress for under $50 is still a great deal!

So if you're looking for a sweet dress to take you all through summer - this dress fits the bill and the wallet!
