Makeup Monday: My Current Eye Obsessions

Hello fellow makeup junkies! I present to you a few of the eye products from my makeup stash that I am quite enamored with currently!  I hope everyone had a fab holiday weekend and while I didn't get makeup for presents, I did splurge on a new digital camera with my Christmas money!  I'm (im)patiently waiting for my new GE X5 to arrive as well as a tripod (for outfit photos and such) as well as a nice bag for toting my camera around. I purchased the same camera as my Dad so I've had the opportunity to give his a test-drive before I committed to purchasing mine. I've also purchase the same exact camera bag too but of course I will embellish mine with a fancy scarf or some sort of decoration - gotta fashionista it up!   So here goes on a few of my eye makeup picks - enjoy!

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil - I'm obsessed with this in the "Milk" shade which is a true, creamy white that is devoid of shimmer. This makes a great eyeshadow base/primer because the colors really stick to the texture and pop quite nicely. I will also apply a few swipes and blend well under my eyes before I add my concealer to brighten things up a bit and to help diminish the gosh awful discoloration due to lack of sleep and genetics. I also am a fan of the new Rocky Mountain Green Color which I use as a base for any green eyeshadows or as liner on my lower lashline if I am doing a super neutral look but needing a pop of color.

Maybelline Volum' Express The Falsies - This very well might be my "holy grail" mascara. Volume, length, decent separation...  Wears quite nicely too! You must close the tube very tightly on this one or it will quickly dry out and be prone to clumping. My fave high end mascaras are Clinique's High Impact and Dior's DiorShow and this definitely gives DiorShow a run for it's money.

Wet 'n Wild "Brulee" Color Icon Eyeshadow Single - This has become my new everyday eyeshadow. Slap it on from lid to brow over my eyeshadow, add a shimmery brow bone highlight color, line eyes, and add mascara - DONE!!! Easy as pie. My one gripe is that the shadow has tried to crumble a bit in the pan when in my makeup bag but for just under $2 a pop, not a bad deal at all.  I have yet to try the other colors but this is Brulee is a very close dupe to MAC's Brule, this just may be a just smidge darker.

Last minute holiday wish...

Dear Santa,

I think I've been fairly good this year. Not necessarily perfect, but good enough...

I am really happy for the career transition that's headed my way and I am looking forward to that new adventure. I know I also asked for a cute, new special someone to kiss under the mistletoe but Christmas Eve is tomorrow and my chances don't look too promising.

As much as I'd love a new pair of shoes or a cute new shirt, I have had my eye on the GE X5 camera for a while. I would like to get in the habit of taking outfit photos since I don't have my own paparazzi nor do I have a full-length mirror to do the camera phone self-portrait, so a GE X5 paired with a nice sturdy tripod would be a fantastic Christmas gift.

GE X5
So Santa, if you're still looking for that last minute gift - I'd gladly accept one of these GE X5's in my stocking or under the tree. I'll also take a Nordstrom gift card too while you're at it!

Love,

RVAfashionista a.k.a. Lindsay

The RVAfashionista Winter Skin Survival Guide

The dry winter air and frigid temperatures always ends up wreaking havoc on my somewhat sensitive skin that's already prone to hormonal and stress related breakouts. To combat  the dryness of the acne medication I've been using to clear up the breakouts, these products have been my lifesavers for getting my skin back on track.

Walgreens Daily Regenerating Cleanser - I use this two to three times a week as a face scrub. I'm currently using The Parsonage Oatmeal, Milk & Honey Soap as my everyday facial cleanser. I am also a fan of the Lavender Fields Farm Oatmeal, Milk, & Honey Soap.

Bio-Oil - I use this as a serum and around my eyes because my skin is especially dry in the eye area. The Bio-Oil has helped with some of the discoloration around my eyes and from leftover acne scars and marks. This is surprisingly non-greasy and helps add that extra moisture my skin craves in the dry weather.

Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream - This stuff doesn't break me out, keeps my skin super hydrated, and is gentle enough to use around the eye area as well.  Dermatologists swear by the Cetaphil brand and I do too!

Carmex Strawberry Moisturizing Lipbalm - Don't forget your lips when keeping the rest of your face moisturized! I even wear this under lipsticks and lip glosses because sometimes the moisture from the gloss isn't enough to keep my lips hydrated.

Clinique City Block SPF25 - I wear sunscreen religiously and this is my go-to product. I have been wearing City Block for years and there is nothing quite like it in my opinion. It doesn't sting or run into your eyes if you get sweaty and leaves a nice natural finish.

LeenaLu - Welcome to Carytown!

I have an affinity towards accessories whether they're shoes, jewelry, purses... you get the idea. I am a bona-fide shoe whore to say the least and we know I love jewelry from my "Jewelry of the Day" posts. So I am delighted that LeenaLu is a brand new boutique in Carytown with a fabulous selection and awesome prices. LeenaLu's owner Lee Ann IbaƱez took her passion for fashion with her previous retail management experience to build the LeenaLu experience. FRYE Friday: Dannika Piping Boot

These FRYE Dannika Piping Boots with their soft black leather, dark red piping, and zipper detail are calling my name.  I've always had an affinity towards FRYE boots but I have yet to acquire a pair of my own. My mother has a beautiful cognac pair that she picked up at Ross and my sister has these that my mother and I bought her for Christmas last year when I was still working at The Big N. The FRYE Dannika is also available in brown but I am digging the contrast of the red piping on the black leather. If you like the boot shape of the Dannika Piping Boot but zippers aren't your thing, check out the Dannika Campus style. I do like the flexibility of the Dannika Piping Boot to wear it cuffed as shown in the picture or un-cuff them and wear them as a knee high boot.

Shoe Lust: Qupid Tabu 13 Camel Herringbone Cuff High Heel Boots

I have been on the prowl for a pair of caramel/cognac/brown boots to replace my favorite pair from Target that met their demise at the beginning of fall 2009. I noticed that Lulu*s had partnered with Keiko Lynn for a fantastic giveaway and as a result, these Qupid Tabu 13 Camel Herringbone Cuff High Heel Boots are now on my radar especially with their under $40 price tag!

#40andFAB - A Social Media Makeover - THE FINAL REVEAL

There's an African proverb thats "It takes a village to raise a child." In the case of our #40andFAB makeover, it took a village of fantastic people and businesses to #40andFAB makeover the lovely Sara Marsden. Ann Grace Wallace from Ann Grace & Co. was the initial brains for the project, Sara was our willing recipient, and well... we'll just say I'm the social media and writing goddess who ties all the loose ends together! Like many mothers, Sara is usually spending her time balancing between raising a family and her career as the Marketing Director for Theatre IV and the Barksdale Theatre. Since Sara is often in the public eye to spread the word regarding upcoming theatre events like The Velveteen Rabbit and Irving Berlin's White Christmas - we felt she needed a little boost to put her best foot forward and hence the #40andFAB idea was born!

We'd like to give a huge THANK YOU to our wonderful sponsors - if it wasn't for the fabulous people and businesses we were involved with, we wouldn't have been able to pull it off!!!

Lavender & Lace Lingerie provided us with fantastic shapewear, bras, and AWESOME Yummie Tummie camisoles! Don't forget to check them out on Facebook for promotions and sales at the store.

Dillard's Short Pump provided us with Sara's outfit, shoes, accessories, and a makeup lesson from Clarins. We had an awesome time at their Work Your Style event! The customer service provided by Tish Goodman and her assistant manager as well as Kaitlin Dennis was AWESOME! If you're looking for great women's apparel - Dillard's Short Pump is the place to go!

Saxon Shoes provided us with a fantastic black patent faux-croc clutch that's big enough to hold your essentials in a streamlined shape. Sara also picked out this beautiful silver and gold tone cuff bracelet that looks great for dressy and casual outfits! We all known Saxon is known for shoes but they have great accessories and jewelry too - don't forget to check them out on Facebook.

Mango Salon at their new Short Pump location provided us with Sara's fresh cut and color. Our stylist Niki did a fantastic job interpreting Sara's initial vision on how she'd like her hair to look and gave Sara a polished yet easy to style look.

Check out the gallery for photos from the process of the #40andFAB makeover and from the final reveal at the Barksdale Theatre for their Drama Divas Girls Night Out. Big thanks to Robyn O'Neill for the photos from the final reveal and being our talented paparazzi that evening. We will be having another Drama Divas night in December so stay tuned!
