CoverGirl OutLast Lipstain - "marker" this on your to buy list!

In this tough economy, a diva like myself enjoys a cheap yet chic "beauty splurge" once in a while.CoverGirl OutLast Lipstain fits the budget for around $8 and lasts for hours. The felt tip "marker-like" applicator lends to quick and easy application - color your lips in and go! The lipstain works best applied on clean, dry lips and if you desire a deeper shade, reapply after your first coat dries. I applied lip balm once the the stain dried but I also paired the lipstain with some gloss when I went out last night so it's another way to wear it. I chose Teasing Blush #415 as my color of choice, which is a "my lips but better" color (also resembles that post-smooch-fest lip color which is hard to acquire unless you've had said smooch fest). The CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain has been "field tested" through dinner and a glass of wine. I have yet to "smooch test" the CoverGirl OutLast Lipstain but I have a feeling that it will survive that too!PHOTO CREDIT: CoverGirl

Happy Thanksgiving!

First of all, I wish a Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! We should all be thankful every day for all things great or small but Thanksgiving does remind us of all the good things in life. Lately I have a lot to be thankful for and I definitely feel very blessed! In addition to my friends and family, I am also thankful to have a job. For a number of reasons, things didn't work out at the financial planning firm I was working at the last six months. I ended up asking my old "retail gig" for a job and I am so happy they welcomed me back with open arms. So I am back to what I am doing best - sales and providing excellent customer service. It's in my heart and I feel rather silly now for leaving a company I had been with for almost five years.

Yes, retail is not easy but it is what it is and I love it! Let's just hope I "survive" Black Friday and the post-Thanksgiving weekend!

Change is good.

Dear friends,

This election has our country divided but I hope our country will become united since Barack Obama has been elected as President of the United States of America. We are a diverse nation of many, many people. We are also lucky enough to live in a place where we get to vote for our leaders as opposed to a dictator taking charge without the general consent of the people. The opportunity to vote is an amazing right to have and I can successfully say I have voted in every election since I was 18 (and yes, I did vote for Bush the first time).

I know liberals. I know conservatives. I know moderates. I want you all to know that yes, I did vote for a full Democratic ticket and it's my right to choose whom I wish to vote for. I also want to add that this portion of Obama's victory speech struck a chord with me tonight:

Let us resist the temptation to fall back on the same partisanship and pettiness and immaturity that has poisoned our politics for so long. Let us remember that it was a man from this state who first carried the banner of the Republican Party to the White House -- a party founded on the values of self-reliance, individual liberty, and national unity. Those are values we all share, and while the Democratic Party has won a great victory tonight, we do so with a measure of humility and determination to heal the divides that have held back our progress. As Lincoln said to a nation far more divided than ours, "We are not enemies, but friends...though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection." And to those Americans whose support I have yet to earn -- I may not have won your vote, but I hear your voices, I need your help, and I will be your President too.

We all must be united and willing to embrace change. Life is full of change and change is inevitable. To those "throwing their hands up in the air" saying that they're going to move out of the country or that the world is going to end - it's going to be OK.

Yes, we have to trust the man or woman in the oval office but we also have to trust that greater power from above. I may not be the strongest believer at times but "God will provide" and He has provided us with a new President. You may not be for everything that our new President believes in but I believe in the equality that our country can and will possess. People are people - no matter what age, sex, orientation, race, etc.

So my friends, I will step off my soapbox for now but I wanted to share my thoughts with you all!

May God bless America. I am PROUD to be an American.

Love always,

If it wasn't for Twitter...

I hopped on the Twitter bandwagon sometime at the end of spring/beginning of summer this year and now I should belong in a 12-step program for Twitter addicts - "eat, sleep, tweet." You never know who you might "meet and tweet" with and I personally believe it's a greater social networking tool than Facebook or MySpace.

So why am I going on and on about Twitter when I should be writing about beauty, fashion, clothes, jewelry, shopping, and other things of that nature? Well, if it wasn't for being friends with LucidAnna on Twitter - I wouldn't be expecting this sweet cupcake necklace in the mail soon!

Lucid New York Cupcake Necklace

I am thoroughly impressed with the selection of jewelry offered by Lucid New York and when I discovered that there would be a necklace giveaway, I said, "Yes, please." Tweet and you shall receive. So I am stoked about discovering and wearing a new jewelry line and what girl doesn't like things that sparkle?

Never Say "Never Fail"

L'Oreal Infallible Never Fail Lip Gloss introduced itself to the lip gloss market in late 2007 as "the first longwearing lip gloss in only one step." I have a love/hate relationship with any sort of longwear lip product. I love the concept and the idea of not reapplying "lip gunk" as frequently. I dislike the texture, the smell, the often uneven wear, the "tacky" feeling... the list goes on and on.

After purchasing the shades Coral Sands and Sangria at my local CVS one day on a whim, I've finally given them enough "test-runs" to say I'm not fond of L'Oreal Infallible Never Fail Lip Gloss. The sixteen shades offered are gorgeous but the claim of it lasting six hours kind of throws me for a loop - maybe if you don't smile and don't talk? I happen to do a lot of both so I didn't like how it wore on my lips. I noticed the Coral Sands shade attempts to gather in the inner corners of my mouth when I smile. The Sangria shade is a nice mauve/berry color but it lacks the the initial shine of the peachy-pink Coral Sands shade.

My biggest gripe about L'Oreal Infallible Never Fail Lip Gloss is the texture - it's a sticky, tacky feel. It stuck to my orange juice glass and then my coffee mug even after I had let the gloss set for at least a good five minutes! One of my gal pals on Twitter wanted me to give it a true "test-run" i.e. a "makeout session" but after attempting to wear this lipgloss, I wouldn't want to make anyone kiss me! This lipgloss is a big ol' FAIL. Don't say "Never Fail" because chances are it will fail.

How do you survive the rainy day blues?

So the hurricane/tropical storm/rainstorm Hanna arrived late last night/early this morning and now has left...

This morning was a case of the "rainy day blues" due to the horrid weather. I decided to meet ChicArmoire and her daughter this morning for brunch at Panera. Since brunch took less time than expected, we ventured out to brave the rain and headed to our favorite vintage shop Halcyon but a quick drive-by discovered they were closed for the day! So, what to do? We felt a trip to Regency Square mall was in order to visit two of our fave stores: For Love 21 and Sephora.

It's hard to go into Sephora and to NOT buy anything but after restraining my shopping urges at For Love 21, I "broke down" and bought only two things at Sephora (but received a sample and a free gift for being a Beauty Insider).

I am a sucker for neutral eyeshadows, so I decided on purchasing Sephora Brand Colorful Pearl Mono Eyeshadow - Pearl #8 (Champagne Beige Pearl). After much deliberation and receiving many rave reviews about the Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Powder from quite a few Sephora associates, I was sold buying it! Also one of the Sephora associates was kind enough to give us samples of the Sephora Brand "Tricks Of The Trade" Anti-Shine Primer and my Beauty Insider gift was a sample of the new Smashbox Bionic Mascara.

Now it's time to play with my new goodies! I'll try to post reviews once I give my new goodies a full test-run!

Fall Inspiration?

When it's 80-something degrees outside, I can't focus on fall fashion because my mind is on flip-flops and how much more time at the pool I can squeeze in. I did find a little inspiration at Target this weekend and kicked off my flip-flops to try these boots on! The calf on these is actually wide enough for me and they're a steal for being under $35.

Check out Target.com or your local store for these Mossimo Kat Tall Boots, you'll want to buy them before everyone else does!

I also can't wait to wear my Trotters riding-styled boots I bought back in December, they will definitely be a staple for my work wardrobe.

Blogging On The Run: Stepping Out Of The Shoe Box

I am attending a "hot shoes" party tonight. I was originally planning to wear my black Jessica Simpson d'Orsay pumps but I wanted something a little more fun. On a whim, I stopped by Kohl's on my way back to town from Chester. I stumbled upon these royal blue patent shoes (I apologize for the color depiction not being 100% accurate - crappy store lighting). They wouldn't necessarily be shoes I'd instantly be drawn to but after trying them on and getting compliments from the other ladies shopping, I was SOLD! $15 and some change later, these babies are all mine. I kind of feel like Carrie Bradshaw in them but that's a good thing, right?

EDIT: If you'd like a pair of your own - Kohl's has black and grey in stock as well as yellow or white. The blue must be popular because it's not available online anymore!

Happy birthday to me!

My 26th birthday was Friday, so a group of us went to Europa that evening for tapas, sangria, and a fabulous time! It was so nice to "wine and dine" with a small group of friends and I think I had a much better time than throwing a party/get-together at my house. I wore a black lace tunic by Glam, Express Eva jeans, and black Franco Sarto kitten-heel shoes.

Myself and ChicArmoire at Europa.

My friend Holly, ChicArmoire, and myself - also at Europa.

Cheers to fabulous friends and fun!

Blogging On The Run: Maybelline goes COLOSSAL?

I have yet to see any advertisements or PR for Maybelline's The COLOSSAL Volum' Express Mascara. When drugstore rival CoverGirl introduced LashBlast mascara, the PR was huge! The ads featuring Drew Barrymore were (and still are) everywhere - television, magazines, and the internet. So I'm finding it odd that this new mascara isn't even showing up on Maybelline's website. I did some research thanks to Google and turns out the official release date is July 1st. Now I'm tempted to go back to the CVS where I found this and buy one before the official release date! I need another mascara like I need a hole in my head but I am a quintessential makeup junkie.

Has anyone seen this in their local drugstore yet before the release date?

OnGossamer's Luxury Liner Collection

I am a self-professed lingerie addict. My one complaint about all my pretty panties is that I'm afraid to wear them "that time of the month" and who wants to wear granny panties when you're already feeling bloated, irritable, and frumpy? OnGossamer has come to the rescue with their Luxury Liner collection! What makes the OnGossamer Luxury Liner collection different from the rest? It's the black-colored liner in these that wicks away moisture and prevents any stains coming through onto your pants. I have tried out the bikini style and there is no visible panty line (VPL) even with my black pants that always show a VPL unless I wear a thong! The Luxury Liner panties come in three styles: high-rise (high-cut brief), bikini, and thong. The color selection includes the basics of black, nude, and white but the collection also includes a pretty pink color as well. So there's pair to fit your personal style!

For more information, check out www.LuxuryLiner.com and you'll be able to peruse OnGossamer's other cute lingerie collections as well!

Solving a denim dilemma?

Since I am getting older (and by older, I mean that I will be 26 in less than two months), I have decided that anything "super low rise" is just not flattering on me. I have discovered I look much slimmer in my dress pants since the average rise on them is about an inch-and-half below my belly button. Unfortunately, most jeans have given me a "muffin top" because they are cut so low! I did some online shopping on my lunch break and found that Express made a "regular rise" style. I went straight to the mall after work and headed to Express to check out their denim collection. I tried on the Eva and the Stella styles but the Eva fit much better due to the regular rise! No muffin top, nice dark color, good length for heels - what more could I ask for?!?

Good jeans = happiness. I want to look skinny in my jeans and by wearing low-rise, it's not going to happen for me unless those 20 pounds magically disappear. So by raising the rise, everything is kept in place and I am a happy girl!

Where have I been?

Life's had quite the turnaround as of late, I've started a new job at a investment/wealth management firm and I love it! Right now I'm an administrative assistant but I hope to eventually work on getting my licenses so I could sell life insurance and securities in the future. Who would of thought I'd end up working in the financial industry?!? I left my job at the high school, my last day at the "big fancy department store" was on Wednesday, and I've been hired by one of my fave makeup brands to be a freelance artist for them as something to do on the side. I worked my first event for them yesterday and had a fantastic time! I ended up doing a lot of prom makeup and once I got in the flow, I did some amazing work in my opinion and one of the M.A.'s who works at that counter said to me, "I had no idea you could do eyes like that." The counter manager is definitely going to have me come back and work for him again.

So yeah, life is good.

In other news, here's how to blow over $50 at Sephora:

Laura Geller Spackle Under Makeup Primer

Urban Decay Primer Potion

Tarte Rejuvelash - This stuff is AMAZING when you want to touch up your mascara. Swipe Revujelash on and then apply a coat of your usual mascara and you are good to go. It "primes" your lashes that already have mascara on them so you can touch up your mascara without the potential of adding clumps!

I know I'm a little late trying out LashBlast...

I finally jumped on the bandwagon and decided to try CoverGirl's LashBlash mascara. I know ChicArmoire had been using both LashBlast and Too Faced's Lash Injection. I was totally expecting her to like the Lash Injection better but the CoverGirl LashBlast was for the win and the price is way better too! I was also a bit skeptical at first about buying it due to the mixed reviews on MakeupAlley but since LastBlast was on sale at CVS last week, I figured I'd finally take the plunge since I was due for a new mascara and Chic Armoire's lashes have looked amazing lately.

So let me tell you, I am LOVIN' the LashBlast. I was afraid of having issues with the big brush but so far, so good. There's no flaking or smudging but I haven't tested it in really humid weather yet so I'll let you know once the weather warms up a bit more if it can take the heat!

A little bit of M.A.C. never hurt anyone...

It's such an odd thing how vacation time flies by so fast... Just think, next Monday I'll be back to the grindstone of work, work, and school. Yesterday, I did get to sleep in a little bit and then I went to see ChicArmoire and her two adorable children before she left on her business trip to Florida this morning.

I did a little damage to my wallet at M.A.C. this weekend, picked up Naked Lunch and Sable eye shadows, Urgent! Slimshine lipstick paired with Red Stroke Lipglass pencil, and a new pencil sharpener. I finally bought Naked Lunch partially due to Blogdorf Goodman's 40 Days and 40 Nights of Beauty Cult Classics review.

I've been good and hadn't bought M.A.C. since the holidays so it was nice to have a little haul of M.A.C. goodness! I am in love with Urgent! because it initially goes on sheer but it is a build-able red especially with a lip liner underneath so you can wear it for day or night!

Lipgloss Lovin'

I am a lipgloss addict for a number of reasons... Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss is hands down one of my fave drugstore lipglosses. My two fave colors are Cherries In The Glow (top swatch on hand) and Glossy Rose (bottom swatch on hand). Unfortunately my camera phone didn't capture the differences in these two colors so a written description will have to do instead! Cherries In The Glow looks rather opaque in the tube but it is a great sheer pinky-red with no sparkles. Glossy Rose is a pinky-rose that goes with almost anything and has golden pink sparkles. I tend to wear one of these two colors almost every day or I wear both mixed together sometimes. These two shades have become my "go-to" lipglosses lately. The sticky feeling is minimal, my lips are moisturized, and the color lasts a decent amount of time. Plus the fact you can pick them up at your local CVS or Target and a wide range of shades offered, this lipgloss is a winner in my book!

. . .

In other news, I will be on spring break from my school system job in less than an hour!!! I do work the retail gig tomorrow but after that, I'll be home free for a week. Which means I can hopefully do some long overdue blogging...

I am a victim...

Of a D.I.Y. hair dye gone bad. My hair is now a ashy dark blonde with a greenish-gray tinge on parts. Yuck. I am having to deal with the public mortification of working both jobs today.

Tonight I am fixing my poor hair when I get off the retail gig and let's hope for a normal shade of blonde-ness. Yuck.

Basics On A Budget: The Cardigan Sweater

As I've approached my mid-twenty-somethings, I've tried to work on
building my wardrobe with basic, functional pieces. One of my obsessions is finding the essential cardigan. On a trip to Target this week, I found this great <a href="http://www.target.com/Cherokee-Crewneck-Cardigan-Ebony/dp/B0011E75NO/sr=1-6/qid=1204299669/ref=sr_1_6/602-2891759-0199047?
ie=UTF8&index=target&field-browse=1041790&rh=k%3ACherokee%20Crewneck%20Cardigan&page=1">cardigan sweater by Cherokee. While the online description lists the sweater as being 100% cotton, the fabric content is actually cotton with a touch of nylon and Lycra spandex which will help keep it's shape. The sweater is a basic 3/4-sleeve, crew-neck style that buttons up the front. I've always been a fan of 3/4-sleeve sweaters because I am
petite (5'1") and most sweaters have terribly long sleeves. Of course I bought this sweater in black but I think I will probably purchase the white and pink ones as well. You can't beat the price either, a basic style for under $20!

Oh, I love shopping in NoVA...

Today I was at Tyson's Corner for a training seminar, so of course my coworkers and I had to take a quick detour on the way home to Potomac Mills. Browsed at the Rack for a bit, picked up a pair black leather Reef flip-flops and a handful (ok, five pairs) of the Hanky Panky low-rise thongs in some cute color combos.

I tried to be persuasive and convince everyone that we should stop by Steve & Barry's as well because I wanted to check out the Bitten line by Sarah Jessica Parker. Unfortunately, that idea didn't work. I am thinking to instead drive up to northern Virginia on Saturday and make a day of shopping and scoping out what's going to be hot for spring since now is the time that the spring goodies start rolling in...

Lazy Sunday Blogging...

So I'm sitting here with Queen Helene's Mud Pack Masque drying on my face and pondering what to write about... I normally do blog with a focus or a plan in mind.

*ta-da* My focus has been achieved. But first, let me go wash this mask off!

. . .

So as "old school" as this sounds, I've started using Pond's Cold Cream. This stuff is amazing at removing mascara and eyeliner! My eyes are on the sensitive side and most eye makeup removers sting/burn/hurt like crazy. I use the cold cream with a baby wipe (the Target fragrance free ones) to help loosen up all the mascara. Followed by my favorite Oatmeal, Milk & Honey Soap from Lavender Fields Farm, I have a clean face!

. . .

Now since my face mask is off, my skin looks a bit clearer and the pores on my nose aren't as noticeable (which is always a plus). I definitely will let you all know if I still like the Queen Helene Mud Pack Masque in a few weeks.

Happy Sunday!

Blogging On The Run: This is why I've been on a blog hiatus.

I've escaped from the blogging world the last few weeks. Why? My roommate/gay husband and I adopted two adorable four-month-old kittens we've named Olive and Feta. So I've been been in "Mommy mode" towards my new babies. The incredibly bad but still cute photo is of Olive perched on my shoulder this afternoon. While this post really doesn't contain any real beauty or fashion info, I did get my brows done yesterday. They're a bit thinner than usual but I'm liking them so far. Hopefully I can get to writing a "real" post later tonight or tomorrow since I'm off all weekend? I admit it's been nice to relax though...

Thank you BellaSugar and Sephora!

I've started reading BellaSugar on a consistent basis (and by consistent, I mean EVERY DAY). One of the perks of reading BellaSugar is the Sephora sponsored giveaways to win fabulous beauty prizes. Saturday's giveaway was Murad Essential-C Eye Cream SPF 15 and I happened to be the lucky winner! This eye cream is a 2006 Best Of Sephora winner and I can't wait to try it out as soon as it arrives in the mail. I'm always on the hunt for my "holy grail" eye cream so I'm hoping this could be it?

I'm in Richmond Magazine!

I'm featured in the February issue of Richmond Magazine about dating in Richmond!

A big thanks goes out to Kate Andrews for writing such an awesome article. Trust me, dating in Richmond is no easy task!

The Retail Therapy Follow Up!

As mentioned in my last post, I had a "retail therapy" day last Tuesday and in addition to shopping at Sephora, I stopped by The Body Shop while I was there. I had been using their Ultra Smooth Liquid Concealer but the sales associate said that it had been discontinued and she suggested I try out their Flawless Skin Protecting Concealer. I also picked up their Illuminating Eye Treatment (couldn't find a link on the website so here's a link to the MakeupAlley review instead) and it especially brightens my eye area when paired with my Clinique All About Eyes Rich.

. . .

I'm being extra nice to my skin today and treating myself to a facial at Let's Face It this afternoon! They offer massages, facials, as well as the bareMinerals makeup line, so call them at (804)364-1112 to book an appointment.

Sephora is my anti-drug.

Today I did a bit of retail therapy at Sephora. I swear that I could spend hours in that place! I decided to splurge on a new concealer and I picked out the Vincent Longo Concealer/Illumina Pencil - Light #1. Since good brushes are an investment to any makeup collection, I picked up Sephora Brand Professional Platinum Bronzer Brush #48 to mainly use with my loose face powders. I can see a lot of potential uses with this brush in addition to applying and buffing in my face powder: M.A.C. Mineralized Skin Finishes, M.A.C. Pigments (as blushes and to contour), bronzer, etc. I do own two of the mini M.A.C. kabuki brushes that came out with the Pearlizer sets last summer and they're great for detail work especially for creating cheekbones but sometimes I want a bigger brush (but not too big of a brush).

I also picked up a couple goodies at The Body Shop but I'll post about those tomorrow!

. . .

In other news, I went into Forever21 and one of the sales associates was so rude and had this "I don't want to be here" aura about her. I would have bought something there but I had a hard time finding my size so I think I'll shop off their website instead. If I go into a store and I see a sales associate with arms crossed, I am inclined to take a quick look at the merchandise and to walk back out. I guess after working in retail all these years, I like friendly and approachable salespeople. If your body language tells me to go away, I'm not buying anything!

I wish...

I'm not sure if my hopes and wishes will come true but I really wish Rafe would come out with another line for Target. The Hollywould line was OK but not practical for everyday and the Loeffler Randall line has some cute pieces but I really wish some of the pieces like this one would come in black.

In other news, I've found the essential 3/4-sleeve t-shirt that I will probably buy multiples of and wear until they fall apart or fade. It comes in both a scoop-neck and v-neck version. To make it even more enticing, they're on sale for $9 each this week at Target!

Birthday Wishes!

Just a quick update of sorts.

HAPPY SATURDAY! This is going to be a quick post because I need to finish getting ready for work...

*I am now a member of RVABlogs community!

*I'm moving (again) but into the bigger bedroom at the house. So tomorrow's task is moving everything and re-doing my room.

*Last night I did the First Fridays Art Walk but it was kind of quiet (probably due to the fact of the cold and that all the VCU kids aren't back yet).

*I start classes on Monday though... Eek?!?

You Know I'm A Sucker For Sale...

Just a heads up, South Moon Under is having a fabulous sale! I originally tried on this Frenzii wrap cardigan in green but their store manager was nice enough to track a black one down from another store (sorry, y'all - I HAVE THE LAST BLACK ONE). You can still buy the cardigan in green or mango on South Moon Under's website though. Be sure to check out the rest of the sale goodies!

Yes there's broken hearts on my sneakers!

My New "Emo Chucks"!

Ugly Shoes... PART 2!

So here's three more of my "top picks" for ugly shoes! If you wish to experience ultimate fug-ness, click on the pictures to make them bigger!

Blue velour? Ribbons, appliques, and sequins? Tacky shoe party anyone?!?

High heels and athletic styling? This actually might be a cute sneaker minus the obnoxious rubber heel...

And finally last but not least, full-on-sequined ballet flats. The picture doesn't show it but it has a thin, sneaker-esque WHITE rubber sole. Sequins are fab for evening but not for day. I don't care how glamorous you think you are, your feet do not need the Vegas glitz of sequins.

I wish you all a FASHIONABLE and FABULOUS 2008 NEW YEAR!!!

Ugly Shoes... Here we go!

Our first shoe victim is this bronze velvet bootie. This shoe has potential if it was suede and maybe the color could be a couple shades darker. All what we thought upon first seeing this shoe is that it looks like a reindeer hoof or something gone horribly wrong in Santa's workshop of shoes. *sigh*

As a teenager in the late 90's, I remember when these clunky oxfords were the rage. Well, guess what kids? THEY'RE BACK! Help. I guess the one advantage of these shoes is that you could walk in mud puddles and not get your feet wet with obnoxiously thick heel and platform.

So this is just the first of the fug and ugh but check out ChicArmoire's "Ugly Shoes May Rule" post too.

Partners In "Crime"?!?

ChicArmoire and I ventured out today for some much needed breakfast and a little bit of shopping. After hitting up Marshall's and Steinmart, we headed to DSW. While they had some fab shoes in stock, we also saw our fair share of fug shoes. With a little inspiration from past posts of Go Fug Yourself, we definitely picked some of the most fug shoes.

It's definitely a how to of what not to choose for shoes! So stay tuned!
